Buying food has always been a special feature of lunch breaks at Yeronga State School. From the pieman with his horse and cart in the early 1900s to the pie van in the 1950s and 60s, fast forward through the rise of the tuckshop under D block with its roller door shutters and parent helpers to today’s purpose built tuckshop near the Activities hall. These days a convenor manages healthy menus still with the help of volunteer parents, but meals and snacks are pre-ordered and paid for by credit card through the Flexischools app. Our convenor wears a uniform, as does the uniform shop manager. Food is served before school and at both lunch breaks.
