A sesquicentennial is a pretty special celebration! To mark the occasion, Yeronga State School has several events planned to honour turning 150 years old.

Foundation Day Assembly
Friday, February 5, 2021 – 9:00am

A special assembly for current students and invited guests to celebrate the School’s Foundation Day (February 6th). Special guests will be invited to address and inspire current students. Commemorative ceremonies such as tree planting, ribbon cutting and commemorative gifts will form the basis for the official and ceremonious acknowledgment of such a wonderful milestone for the school.

ANZAC day Ceremony
Friday, April 23, 2021 – 9:00am

Yeronga State School has a long standing tradition of holding ANZAC day ceremonies and laying of wreaths to honor and commemorate the many Australians and New Zealanders who have served and died during all wars.

Guest speakers and dignitaries will offer special tribute highlighting the significance of the school’s history and the Yeronga Memorial Park which borders the school.

Yeronga State School Fete
Saturday, May 22, 2021 – 10:00am – 7:30pm

The Biennial fete is an eagerly anticipated event with so much fun to be had by all! With lots of live entertainment, music, food, rides, sporting and craft activities, market stalls and a well stocked bar, there is something for everyone.

With the 150th to celebrate, there will be lots of cause for celebration. Ending on a bang, a spectacular fireworks display will bring the festivities to a close for the evening.

Alumni Roll Call by Decade

Alumni and families are welcome to tour the school and reminisce old memories and see how the school has changed over the years.

Tours will be conducted in time slots dedicated to different decades. A schedule will be updated closer to the event. Please save the date for the time being and if you have the energy, join us for a bush dance in the evening.

EVENT CANCELLED FOR 2021

An homage to an old school tradition, and in celebration of the 150th Anniversary, Yeronga State School is bringing back it’s famous Bush Dance! Join the festivities for a good old fashioned hoe-down, dancing, music, food trucks and bar as we dance under the starlight to the Heel and Toe and the Pride of Erin and many other nostalgic tunes!!

150th Ball Games Carnival
Tuesday, September 14, 2021 – 9:00am

A special event for the students, the annual ballgames carnival will take a step back in time and revisit some of the games from bygone eras and explore the food and clothing of yesteryear in a fun-filled day of activities.

What games can you recall? Tunnel ball, Hopscotch, Knuckles, Elastics?? We would love to hear from you if you can recall some of your favourite schoolyard games to incorporate into the day’s activities.

Staff Function (Past and Present Staff of YSS)
Saturday, October 9, 2021 – 2:30pm – 6:00pm

A function especially for all of the dedicated staff of Yeronga State School (past and present), to acknowledge their role in creating the wonderful school that YSS has become, and to share in memories and laughter as they have an opportunity to catch up and compare stories of their time at the school.
